Breast Forms for a Prosthesis Bra

The importance of a prosthesis bra is obvious, but a mastectomy bra itself is of little value without a proper set of breast forms. There are countless styles of breast forms on the market today. The choice of materials, size, colors and features is truly amazing. Many women like the ability to chose and substitute at a whim depending on outfits or just the mood they are in!

The earliest forms were chunky, clumsy creations that did little to help a woman feel feminine or beautiful. Today, silicone gel forms are incredibly realistic and natural looking. Though more expensive, silicone gel breast forms most closely mimic the human breast. If handled with care, these forms can be extremely long lasting. They can be purchased with or without nipples and nipples can be added later if desired. Silicone gel breast forms are most popular with those recovering from a total mastectomy, but they are easily bought as separates, too. There are a wide range of fleshtones and nipple colors available in silicone to mimic a more natural look. Of course, they come in a wide range of sizes, too. Many women use this opportunity to increase their bust size.

They can be used with far less caution than silicone forms since they are hard to damage and easily replaced if damaged. Lightweight and not as prone to movement, they are often chosen by very active women. Foam breast forms can even be used for swimming. A foam form is the only type allowed for the first few weeks following surgeries and many women continue to use them. Many like the low-cost and very light weight. They travel well and can be used with many prosthesis bra types.

There is no right or wrong breast form. Silicone gel forms are natural looking, but expensive. Foam inserts offer an inexpensive solution for workouts, sleeping, activities and more. Many women buy both and interchange them based on what the day will bring. Your doctor can probably recommend local suppliers, but they are easily available online, too.
